Making preparations for one’s wedding day can often feel like a never-ending process; some may find themselves frantically checking items off their lists at the last minute and, as a result, feeling understandably stressed. First of all, it is important for those about to get married to take a step back and remember that this is their big day. It should not be spent feeling overwhelmed! Here are a few tips to help one relax and ensure that one is able to have the most enjoyable and memorable day possible.
Don’t Procrastinate
One should do everything possible to get as much done as possible before the big day. Many brides and grooms make the unfortunate mistake of thinking they’ll have time to get ready, have breakfast and lunch, meet with family and friends, and still make some last-minute wedding arrangements. Then, they are surprised just how quickly each moment of the wedding day goes by. To avoid taking on too much, try to get everything done in terms of preparing for the wedding (other than getting dressed and done up, of course) before the day of the wedding. Surely, friends and family will want to see the bride and groom before the vows are exchanged, but they will understand if these busy-bodies do not have time. Allow oneself to relax and enjoy as stress-free of a wedding day as possible.
Request Help
So many brides feel as though it is their responsibility to take on every aspect of the wedding planning. However, this should not be the case. Brides should not be afraid to request or enlist help from their closest friends and family members in planning for the big day. More than likely, they will be honored and thrilled that she asked for their help. Depending on how many helpers have been enlisted, it may be wise to consider assigning each person to a particular aspect of the wedding. For example, a maid of honor may be willing to assist with planning the entertainment for the ceremony and reception, whereas another friend can be responsible for floral arrangements. Having each person do a little bit of work here and there can take the burden off one’s shoulders and make for a more successful and less stressful wedding day.
Have an Emergency Kit
There are so many things that can go wrong on one’s wedding day that most have probably never even thought of before! The bride could end up with an unexpected stain on her gown just hours before the ceremony or even end up with a splitting headache from all of this wedding-planning stress. All brides should consider making an emergency kit to keep with them on their wedding day to save the day in the event of unforeseen circumstances. This kit should include aspirin, stain remover, a nail file, bobby pins, breath mints, lipstick, and anything else that may be needed at a moment’s notice on the big day.
As the wedding day quickly approaches, things can begin to feel overwhelming. Ultimately, it is most important to remember the true reason behind this big day: to solidify a wonderful, loving relationship for the rest of one’s life and to do so in the presence of one’s closest family and friends.
